Rome 1970-71: St. Peter's was floodlit in advance of midnight mass on Christmas Eve, celebrated by Pope Paul VI. Tim Redman and I decided not to attend because it was a very cold night and we didn't like the prospect of standing at a bus stop at 2:30 or 3am trying to get home.
