The Loyola University of Chicago Rome Center campus/1970: Another view from the front side of the Villa. In the distance is a statue of the Madonna, perched on the edge of a hill overlooking Rome. Her right arm was extended with pointing index finger, and it appeared—from our angle, at least—that she was in the process of unfurling a yo-yo. Because of this suggestive pose, it had become a hallowed, though mildly disrespectful, Rome Center tradition to refer to her as “Madonna dello Yo-yo.”
