    In Kauai’s lush interior, Mt. Waialeale is the third rainiest spot in the world, with an annual average of over 38 feet. It also has up to 350 rainy days annually, the most on earth.
    The pristine Lumaha’i Beach on Kauai’s northern end near Hanalei is surprisingly devoid of beachgoers despite nearly perfect weather and conditions. The movie musical South Pacific (1958) used Lumaha’i for its Nurse’s Beach.
    The Cathedral Mountains, on Kauai’s famed Na Pali Coast, have been shaped by million of years of rain and wind erosion. The Na Pali Coast’s 12-mile hiking trail stops short of these hazardous peaks, although some say that native kahunas (shamans) live here.
