Tragedy and Transcendence in Tucson - 1/8/11

On January 8th, 2011, a mass shooting occurred just outside the city limits of Tucson, Arizona. Nineteen people were shot, six fatally. U.S. House of Representative Congresswoman Gabrielle “Gabby” Giffords, shot through the head at point blank range by a bullet from a semiautomatic pistol, was one of the survivors. Here she is being wheeled to a medical helicopter that would take her to Tucson’s University Medical Center (UMC) for emergency medical treatment.
