Rome 1970-71: Rome's Teatro d'Opera. Arguably, the most popular classical musical excursions during fall semester took place the evenings of October 16th and 19th. It was then that a significant portion of the student body attended Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, performed by the Soviet Union’s legendary Bolshoi Ballet. Because of the Cold War, the Bolshoi never visited the U.S., so many of us considered this to be a rare opportunity not to be missed
